The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has revealed a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies, set to begin on December 15. Litton Kumar Das has been named the new captain, signaling a fresh start for the team as they adapt to life without retired legends Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah.
The squad sees the return of experienced players like Soumya Sarkar, Afif Hossain, Shamim Hossain Patwari, Nasum Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, and Ripon Mondol, offering a blend of youth and experience.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, who led Bangladesh during their recent T20I series against India, will miss this series due to a groin injury sustained earlier on tour.
While Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been captaining the Test and ODI sides during this West Indies tour, the BCB decided against assigning him the T20I captaincy due to his limited participation in the shortest format.
Some prominent names are absent from the squad, including Towhid Hridoy, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, and Rakibul Hasan. The omissions, along with a challenging white-ball campaign so far, underline the rebuilding phase Bangladesh finds itself in.
The Tigers come into the T20I series after losing the ODI series 2-0, with one match remaining. In the Test series preceding the white-ball games, Bangladesh managed to bounce back with a 101-run victory in the second Test, levelling the series after suffering a 201-run defeat in the opener.
Bangladesh T20I squad:
Litton Kumar Das (C), Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Jaker Ali Anik, Shamim Hossain Patwari, Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Hasan Mahmud, Ripon Mondol
The first T20I will be played on December 16, followed by matches on December 18 and 20. Bangladesh will aim to turn the tide and end their West Indies tour on a high note.
