The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is determined to take the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to new heights by making it more financially lucrative and professionally managed. To achieve this, the PCB has decided to establish a dedicated PSL entity.
In the past, similar efforts were made but failed to materialize. This time, the PCB has appointed its former Chief Operating Officer, Salman Naseer, as PSL’s first-ever Chief Executive Officer. Usman Wahla, the current Director of International Cricket, is a strong candidate for the role of PSL Director.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Sameer Syed as the new COO, replacing Salman Naseer. Naseer has been tasked with managing PSL in a professional manner to elevate it among the world’s top cricket leagues. As part of this plan, the PCB Constitution will be amended to establish a PSL Secretariat, which will operate independently.
A dedicated PSL office will be set up in the new building at Gaddafi Stadium, but the staff will continue to report to the PCB Chairman. Sources reveal that Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has instructed Salman Naseer to focus on increasing revenue streams for the PSL.
The upcoming 10th edition of PSL presents a significant challenge for the PCB as it coincides with the Indian Premier League (IPL) in India, potentially drawing top international players away from the PSL.
After the 10th season, two additional teams will be added to the PSL. Several prominent business groups have already shown interest in acquiring the new franchises, which will be sold at premium prices.
On Tuesday, the PCB released a new promo for the PSL draft, announcing that the players’ draft will take place on January 11.
