PSL 9: Martin Guptill joins Islamabad United as replacement

Islamabad United has enlisted former New Zealand cricketer Martin Guptill to strengthen their squad, stepping in for UAE player Mohammad Waseem.

Waseem, originally slated to represent Islamabad, had to withdraw from the tournament due to other commitments.

Waseem, a standout performer in the ILT20, was recruited by Islamabad during the season but had to forego participation in the PSL due to scheduling conflicts with UAE's Cricket World Cup League 2 campaign in Dubai, beginning next week.

With League 2 concluding on March 9 and Islamabad United's final league match slated for March 10, Guptill's arrival offers a timely reinforcement to the squad. The seasoned campaigner, having previously featured for Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings in PSL editions, brings valuable experience to the team.

It is worth noting that in the ongoing PSL 2024, Islamabad United has contested two matches, securing one victory and suffering one defeat. They commenced their campaign with a convincing win against Lahore Qalandars but faced a setback against Multan Sultans.
