How many times will PSL be postponed?

PSL postponement was the direct result of Pakistan Cricket Board’s incompetence

How many times will PSL be postponed? Government needs to intervene and investigate why the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was postponed for the second year in a row? It is no rocket science that it was the direct result of Pakistan Cricket Board’s incompetence.

Lankan Premier League and Indian Premier League concluded without any Covid-19 cases because their bio-secure bubble was actually secure. PCB could have also learned from them but their arrogance didn’t allow them and hence everything came crashing down in the end.

PCB has handed the matters of PSL to rookies, who promote themselves by taking credit of bringing foreign players to Pakistan. These rookies should know that foreign players come due to name of PCB and PSL. They have done nothing special by contacting them for their availability for the league.

PCB’s marketing department has always been incompetent. People like PCB’s Director Commercial, Babar Hamid, join the board to enhance their contacts and professional profile and then leave.

Someone needs to ask these people that what they have done with PSL. They used to take credit for every small thing, but now where are they? They should face the media and accept their mistakes.

Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan wanted to bring a principled approach and corporate culture in Pakistan. Why have they not taken responsibility for PSL fiasco and resigned?

Dr Sohail Saleem’s resignation is justified after the failure to implement a bio-secure bubble. However, he is not solely to blame for it. Other PCB officials are equally responsible.

Government is busy in dealing with other issues and it has no time for cricket. PCB used to avoid consulting franchises before taking important decisions, but is now taking their suggestions. However, this is only going to be case for few days. Once PSL6 season six is completed, everyone will forget the mistakes. PCB will again hand the responsibility to Imran Ahmed Khan and Usman Wahla to deal with the franchise owners.

PCB should have booked a separate hotel for the teams and outsourced the bio-secure bubble to a foreign company from the beginning. The board has only included two doctors in the independent fact-finding committee, which will review the bio-secure protocols that were in place during PSL6. PCB wants to put the entire blame on doctors, hence they have not included people from any other field.

It is unfortunate that International Cricket Council (ICC) has said that they will learn from the mistakes committed during PSL6, while making arrangements for the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year in India.  After a long time, a big brand was created in Pakistan. However, it is being marred by the presence of incompetent people.
