Rohit Sharma, who led India to victory in the Asia Cup and an undefeated run to the World Cup final, where they were eventually defeated by Australia, will captain the ODI team of the year chosen by Cricket Pakistan.

The top-order trio of Sharma (1255 runs at 52.2), Shubman Gill (1584 at 63.3), and Virat Kohli (1377 at 72.4) creates a formidable foundation for any team.

Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan will bat at number four, as he had a stellar year in ODIs, scoring 1023 runs at an impressive average of 63.93. Daryl Mitchell (1204 at 52.3) adds solidity to the middle order, while Glenn Maxwell (413 runs at 51.62) at six possesses a diverse range of shots, as demonstrated by his unbeaten 201* against Afghanistan in the World Cup.

Maxwell's off-spin (10 wickets) complements the spin duo of left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja (31 wickets) and leg-spinner Adam Zampa (38 wickets).

The opening bowling pair consists of the prolific Shaheen Afridi (42 wickets) and the impressive Mohammad Siraj (44 wickets), who showcased his skills as a frontline pacer in the Asia Cup final. This formidable bowling pair is further strengthened by the inclusion of Mohammad Shami (43 wickets), who stood out as the standout pacer in the 2023 World Cup.
