Aaqib Javed, Director Cricket Operations and head coach of Lahore Qalandars, have opened up on the ongoing debate regarding franchise captain for the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season seven.
While talking in the program Meet the Press in Lahore, Aaqib reiterated that it's too early to announce the captain. Rumours have been floating around that Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the side in the upcoming season of PSL.
"It's too early to say as we have not decided to name Shaheen or any other individual for captaincy yet. We are considering everything," said Aaqib.
"I think the captain should be the one who can take the team even higher," he added.
Meanwhile, Aaqib praised the way fast bowlers lead the side citing the example of World Cup-winning team captain Imran Khan
"Fast bowlers can lead the side better. Batsmen also can lead well but fast bowlers like Imran Khan control the team more successfully. About the captaincy, the announcement will be made near the beginning of the league," he maintained.
Meanwhile, he termed the reports of his interest in coaching the national team as fabricated while he affirmed that he has no personal differences with Misbahul Haq.
"Only qualified people should get an opportunity on merit. I never asked for a job from anyone in my life as I am accustomed to work according to my own will and planning," he added.
"The development work of Lahore Qalandars for giving new players to Pakistan cricket is in full front of everywhere. The whole world is watching the performances of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Dilbar Hussain. Now another boy [Syed Faridoun] will play in Big Bash League (BBL) from the platform of Lahore Qalandars, so I am sure that people will once again appreciate our player development program," he concluded.
