Afridi advises PCB to handle Shaheen's knee injury carefully

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to handle ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi’s knee injury carefully.

Shaheen hurt his troublesome knee when completing a catch during England's successful run chase at the MCG in T20 World Cup final and left the field immediately after delivering one ball from his second spell.

Star all-rounder commented on left-arm pacer Shaheen’s injury and shared advice for both the latter and the PCB.

“Shaheen is now resting because he once again had his knee injured in the same place,” said Afridi during a local news channel’s program.

“I think Shaheen should rest for at least 2-3 months for recovery and be careful while fielding,” he added.

Shahid Afridi also advised Shaheen to be careful with his fielding and not dive into a position requiring him to go to rehab again.

“He has to play very carefully now and PCB will also have to make sure,” Afridi said.

On the other hand, Afridi also responded to the speculations regarding Shaheen playing the recently-concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 despite the injury and asserted that the latter would not have been able to bowl even two overs in the final.

Meanwhile, PCB Medical Officer Dr. Najeebullah Soomro and Australian knee specialist Dr. Peter D’Alessandro cleared Shaheen of any severe injury and advised the pacer for rehabilitation of two weeks.
