Afridi wants Sarfraz to focus on limited-over formats

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi is of the opinion that wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed — who is currently the captain of Pakistan in all three formats — should shift his focus from Test cricket to limited-over formats.

While speaking to media in Karachi, the 38-year-old said that the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales is just around the corner which is why it is pertinent that Sarfraz puts Test cricket aside for the time being.

“Earlier I was in favour of him leading Pakistan in all there formats. But bearing in mind that the World Cup, I believe that he should put Test cricket aside for some time and focus on ODIs and T20s,” said Afridi. “I am saying this from my experience as it will help him perform better on the field.”

The Pakistan captain has come under fire since Pakistan’s loss in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand in United Arab Emirates. He has lost five of his ten Tests as skipper, with four wins and a draw.

The Pakistan side is currently in South Africa to play three Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is — with the first Test starting in Centurion on December 26.
