Akram, Miandad back Sarfraz as Test captain

Pakistan legends Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram have backed Sarfraz Ahmed as Test captain.

According to Daily Express, the duo has suggested that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should look after other non-performing cricketers instead of removing Sarfraz from the captaincy.

They also don’t see any other player currently capable of taking over Pakistan captaincy from Sarfraz.

Akram — who represented Pakistan in 104 Tests and 356 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) — said: “Sarfraz is doing a great job as captain. Name me one other player who can replace him.”

He added: “There is no Imran Khan or Javed Miandad waiting in line as possible candidates for captaincy.”

Meanwhile, former captain Miandad — who was 1992 World Cup winning team member — said Sarfraz should lead the side in all three formats of the game.

“Sarfraz should not be concerned. There is no option available in the current squad who can replace him as Test captain,” said the 61-year-old — who represented Pakistan in six World Cups. “Those who are trying to find someone responsible for New Zealand series loss, must review the players who aren’t performing instead of replacing Sarfraz.”

Pakistan are currently on tour of South Africa to play three Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is against the home side.
