Ali Zafar loses PSL 9 anthem due to past harassment allegations

Ali Zafar, the renowned Pakistani singer, lent his voice to the anthem for the first three seasons of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, in 2018, his career took a significant hit when singer Meesha Shafi accused him of harassment. Despite the lack of concrete evidence supporting the allegations, a lingering stain on his reputation has hindered his ability to secure another opportunity to sing the PSL anthem.

According to sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had initially planned to have Ali Zafar as the singer for the PSL 9 anthem. A high-ranking league official had committed to this decision, and the singer began working on three songs, one of which was ultimately selected.

However, complications arose when a female official from a PSL franchise raised objections. She argued that associating Ali Zafar with the anthem could have negative repercussions on the league's image, considering the harassment allegations from the past. Taking her concerns into account, the PCB reversed its decision to involve Ali Zafar in the project. The singer has expressed dissatisfaction with this unexpected turn of events, initially seeking public opinion through a social media poll and subsequently venting his frustration through two extensive posts.

As of now, the final decision regarding who will sing the anthem for PSL 9 in place of Ali Zafar has not been reached.
