Amir says ‘nobody is superman’ amid workload concerns

Left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir has said that he is keen on reducing his workload in a bid to improve his performance in international cricket.

While speaking in an interview with Cricbuzz Amir said that he had fruitful conversations with Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed, Head Coach Mickey Arthur and Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq on the same issue.

"I had a proper discussion with Inzi bhai [Inzamamul Haq], Saifi bhai [Sarfraz Ahmed], and Mickey Arthur about my workload and we talked about every aspect of it," Amir said. "Playing three formats is not very easy for any fast bowler. Mitchell Starc just returned and got a niggle after playing just two matches. Nobody is superman.”

Amir is currently playing domestic cricket with Sui Southern Gas Company as he looks to recover his old form and flare with the ball. He has not been part of the national side since the Asia Cup — where he failed to pick up even a single wicket.

"I was feeling that I was lacking confidence," said Amir. “It is good for me that I am here [in domestic cricket]. I can now enhance my skills and rebuild my confidence... So far everything is going well. I have been playing four-day matches and have also played one-dayers. I am feeling good and can feel my body [is] recovering. I gave my body rest after the Asia Cup. I am enjoying being here."

Amir has picked up a total of 14 wickets in both formats of domestic season so far and is confident that the time he has spent playing domestic cricket will prove beneficial once he makes a return to the Pakistan side.

"It is not like my time has been wasted [by returning to domestic cricket]. I got the realization on the right time and now I know how I have to go about my business when I return to the national side," he said.
