Appointed Shahid Afridi to take ‘bold decisions’ – PCB Chairman

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s management committee chairman Najam Sethi said that Shahid Afridi was appointed as interim chief selector to take “bold decisions.”

“He is the sort of person we want in the selection committee who can take bold decisions," Sethi said in an interview to Arab News on Monday.

The newly appointed chairman, who took the office two weeks ago, had immediately made big changes including appointing the former star all-rounder as chairman of PCB selection committee.

Sethi heaped praise on Afridi’s straightforward attitude, calling him a “bold and beautiful” player.

"He is someone to experiment with new talent, to realize where old is still gold and I think that was missing in this team which is why we had four defeats in a row in Test matches,” he said.

The 71-year-old said that the former all-rounder is the “right man” to give Pakistani public the results they want to see. "Afridi was on board and he wanted to make some changes; he wanted to play bold and exciting cricket," the new PCB chief said.

"We are not going to play to win or to lose, but we are now going to play the game in the true spirit of the game," Sethi added.

The previous PCB administration was under fire lately for developing poor quality flat pitches. Earlier, Afridi had promised to make “bouncy wickets” for the second Test in the ongoing series between Pakistan and New Zealand.
