Arthur lambasts senior players after dismal batting performances

Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur has lambasted senior players after team’s second dismal batting performance in two days during the first Test against South Africa in Centurion.

After being bowled out for just 181 in the first innings during the first day, the Green Caps made a great comeback after bowling the home side out for just 223 at the stroke of lunch on the second day.

But the Men in Green lost their nine wickets for just 89 runs during the last session of the day to set Proteas 149-run target to go 1-0 up in the three-match series on Thursday.

A well-informed source told Cricket Pakistan that Arthur lost his cool during the meeting after the day’s play and openly criticised seniors – captain Sarfraz Ahmed, Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq – for their irresponsible batting performances.

The source also confirmed that Arthur abused the senior trio openly and threw things at them in anger, slammed doors and banged walls while showing disappointment for letting go what he believed was a golden chance of claiming a famous win in South Africa.

Arthur also accused the players for intentionally getting out cheaply during the second innings.

It should be noted here that Sarfraz, Asad and Azhar managed to score just 49 runs combine in both innings during the match.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani, who is in South Africa to watch the first Test between both sides, has been informed about the incident.

The source further added that the incident might have severe impact on the team’s performance in the coming days as it might result in the sacking of either the head coach or the captain.

However, the management is unlikely to take such a decision until the end of the ongoing series.
