Babar Azam confirmed as Pakistan white-ball captain till Champions Trophy 2025

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced in a press conference on Sunday that the future of Babar Azam's captaincy will be determined by the selection committee.

Naqvi confirmed that Babar will continue as captain until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but expressed his hope for a longer-term resolution regarding the captaincy.

“The selection committee has to make a decision on Babar Azam’s captaincy in the future. For now, he is the captain till the Champions Trophy 2025,” Naqvi said.

“I wish the decision of captaincy lasts for a long time. It is completely up to the selection committee to decide which player they want or not, I don’t have the authority," he further added.

It is worth noting that Babar was recently reinstated as Pakistan's white-ball captain after being removed from the role across all formats following the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup. He led Pakistan in a recent five-match T20I home series against New Zealand, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
