Babar Azam surpasses Virat Kohli's T20I record

Pakistan's T20I captain Babar Azam has overtaken India's Virat Kohli in the record books, securing the highest number of fifty-plus scores in T20 International cricket.

This historic feat was achieved during Pakistan's final match against Ireland in the T20I series, where Babar delivered a match-winning performance, scoring an impressive 75 runs.

Most fifty-plus score T20Is:

  • Babar Azam: 39 (110 innings)
  • Virat Kohli: 38 (109 innings)
  • Rohit Sharma: 34 (143 innings)

Babar Azam's consistency and ability to convert starts into substantial scores have been exemplary, evident from his three T20I centuries compared to Virat Kohli's one century in T20Is.

Moreover, the 29-year-old is on the cusp of achieving another significant milestone by becoming the first Pakistani cricketer to surpass the 4000-run mark in T20I cricket. 

Currently, he sits at 3955 runs, ranking third in the list of batsmen with the highest runs in T20I cricket, just behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

To surpass Virat Kohli's total runs in T20Is, Babar requires only 82 more runs.

It is worth noting that the Men in Green have won the three-match T20I series against Ireland 2-1. Their next series before the World Cup 2024 is against England, where they are scheduled to play a four-match T20I series starting from 22nd May.
