BAN vs SA: Kagiso Rabada overtakes Waqar Younis's long-standing Test record

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has etched his name in history during the first Test match against Bangladesh, becoming the fastest bowler to reach 300 Test wickets by achieving this remarkable milestone with the fewest deliveries bowled in the longer format of the game.

Rabada set this record on the opening day of the Test series by taking his 300th wicket, dismissing Bangladesh's wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored just 11 runs.

The match saw Bangladesh struggle significantly with the bat, collapsing for just 106 runs. Seven Bangladesh batters failed to reach double figures, with Mahmudul Hasan Joy leading the team’s scoring with a mere 30 runs. Taijul Islam contributed 16 runs, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim added 13 and 11 runs, respectively.

For South Africa, Rabada, along with Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj, dominated the Bangladeshi lineup, each claiming three wickets.

The right-arm pacer has reached an impressive milestone of 300 wickets in just 11,817 deliveries, breaking Pakistan's legendary pacer Waqar Younis's record of 12,602 deliveries.

This Test series is also notable as the first to take place in Bangladesh following the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid, amidst a backdrop of political unrest and student protests.

Adding to the intrigue of the series, Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who recently announced his retirement from all formats of cricket, had expressed his wish to play his final red-ball series at home. However, he is not participating in the series due to security concerns arising from the ongoing political situation.

Shakib, who won a parliamentary seat representing the ruling Awami League party, was recently implicated in a murder case related to the protests that claimed hundreds of lives, further complicating his involvement in cricket.
