Kayes stars as Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by 28 runs

Bangladesh have defeated Zimbabwe by 28 runs in the first One-Day International played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

Chasing 272-run target, Zimbabwe only managed to score 243 runs in their 50 overs on loss of nine wickets despite valiant efforts by Sean Williams (50) and Kayle Jarvis (37). Cepahs Zhuwao (35), Craig Ervine (24) and Peter Moor (26) all chipped in for the visitors, but they failed to get their side over the line.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was top performer with the ball as he claimed three wickets for 46 runs in his 10 overs. Meanwhile, Nazmul Islam bowled superbly as he bagged two wickets for 38 runs.

Earlier, the hosts were reduced to 66 for 3 after they won the toss and elected to bat first on Sunday. However, opener Kayes played a brilliant innings of 144 runs to rescue Bangladesh. His innings included 13 fours and six maximums.

Kyle Jarvis was the star performer for Zimbabwe with the ball as he claimed four wickets for 37 runs in his 10 overs. He was equally supported by Tendai Chatara — who also bagged three wickets.

For his splendid 144-run knock, Kayes was awarded man of the match.
