BCB president in dark as Liton Das is all set to fly to Pakistan for Asia Cup

Nazmul Hassan Papon, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), was surprised to learn that opener Liton Das is going to fly to Pakistan to join the Asia Cup team.

"First of all, I am not aware that Liton is going to Pakistan today. I did not hear it. I just inquired about his update today. If he goes to Pakistan, then I was supposed to know it," Papon told reporters on Monday.

Liton is scheduled to travel to Lahore via Doha tonight, according to a BCB official.

Papon said that he was not aware of Liton's travel plans and that he should have been informed of them. He also said that the BCB would need to get approval from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) before Liton can join the team.

"How will he go? Apart from BCB's approval, there is a question of approval from ACC [Asian Cricket Council]. Today I talked with captain [Shakib Al Hasan], coach [Chandika Hathurusingha], selector Razzak [Abdur Razzak] and Jalal Bhai [cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Yunus] …they didn't say anything. This is something new," Papon added.

Bangladesh had included Anamul Haque to replace Liton Das in the Asia Cup squad, which means that Liton cannot be reinstated in the team since they've already filled his spot with a replacement. If the BCB wishes to bring Liton back into the squad, they'll have to do so as a substitute for a different player. In addition to this, there are some injury concerns in the Asia Cup squad, with Mehedi Hasan Miraz currently dealing with a back problem.
