The Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rajeev Shukla, has said that the Indian team's participation in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year hinges on approval from the Government of India.
Scheduled for February to March 2025, there are concerns that India might not travel to Pakistan for the tournament and might demand a neutral venue for their matches like it did with Asia Cup last year.
Speaking to ANI, Shukla said, "In the case of the Champion Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India will tell us to do. We send our team only when the Government of India gives us permission. So we will go according to the decision of the Indian government."
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has designated Lahore as the sole venue for India's matches during the tournament, a decision aimed at streamlining logistical and security considerations.
ESPNcricinfo reported that the PCB has locked in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi as hosting cities for the two-week event.
India's proposed schedule positions all their matches in Lahore, including the final. This concentrated approach aims to minimize potential travel-related challenges and facilitate easier access for Indian fans, particularly due to Lahore's proximity to the Wagah border crossing.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi last month announced that the board had submitted a draft schedule for the tournament, tentatively slated for mid-February next year, to the ICC.
