Lahore Qalandars have officially announced Carlos Brathwaite as their captain for the highly anticipated Global Super League 2024, set to be hosted in Guyana. The former West Indies skipper brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the Qalandars as they aim for a strong debut in the tournament.
Having been an integral part of the Lahore Qalandars squad over the years, Brathwaite’s all-round capabilities and strategic mindset have made him a trusted figure in the team. His familiarity with Guyana’s unique conditions, gained through extensive playing experience in the Caribbean, is expected to provide a tactical edge for the Qalandars.
Sameen Rana, owner of Lahore Qalandars, expressed his enthusiasm for Brathwaite’s appointment: "Carlos has been a vital part of the Qalandars family. His leadership, knowledge of Guyana’s conditions, and connection with the team make him the ideal choice to lead us in this historic tournament."
Darren Gough, head coach of the team, echoed this sentiment: "Carlos is not only a phenomenal cricketer but also a natural leader. His mentorship and tactical skills will be invaluable as we aim for success in the Global Super League."
Reflecting on his new role, Brathwaite shared his excitement: "It’s an absolute honor to lead the Lahore Qalandars. I’ve built incredible relationships within this team, and I’m ready to take on this challenge. Knowing the conditions in Guyana, I am confident we can deliver strong performances and make our mark in the tournament."
With a balanced squad blending experienced stars and emerging talents, the Lahore Qalandars are well-prepared for the tournament. Brathwaite’s proven leadership and rapport with younger players are expected to foster a competitive and cohesive team environment.
It is worth noting that the tournament's opening match is set to take place in Guyana on November 27, where the two-time PSL champions, Qalandars, will face off against the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
