Champions One-Day Cup winning team mentor to receive cash prize of Rs. 10 Million

The mentor of the winning team in the recently concluded Champions One-Day Cup will receive a prize of 10 million rupees.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had organized the Champions Cup One-Day Cricket Tournament, assigning former Test cricketers Waqar Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Shoaib Malik, and Sarfaraz Ahmed as team mentors. These mentors were each paid a monthly salary of 5 million rupees for their roles.

The winners of the tournament received PKR 30 million, while the runners-up were awarded PKR 15 million.

Before the tournament began, the PCB discussed a prize of 10 million rupees to be distributed among the winning team’s players and officials. However, some mentors opposed sharing the prize with the players, insisting that the amount be reserved solely for themselves.

As a result, Saqlain Mushtaq, the mentor of the tournament-winning team Panthers, will soon receive the full 10 million rupees in recognition of his role in the victory.

Rumors have also surfaced regarding Shoaib Malik’s alleged attempts to replace Usman Wahla as PCB's Director of International Cricket. However, sources close to Malik deny these claims, stating he has no interest in a full-time position within the board.

Instead, Malik is reportedly focused on reviving the Sialkot High-Performance Center and hopes to take charge of its operations.

Meanwhile, another mentor, Sarfaraz Ahmed, faced a setback after being dropped from the national squad following the appointment of new selectors. This move signals that the former captain is no longer part of the national team's future plans, leaving Sarfaraz’s next steps in his cricketing career uncertain.
