Champions Trophy 2025: PCB denies 'hybrid model' speculation amid Indian media reports

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sources has clarified that the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, set to be hosted by Pakistan, will not employ a "hybrid model" as claimed by recent Indian media reports. Earlier claims indicated that Pakistan might adjust its schedule to host India’s matches in the UAE due to political and security concerns that could hinder India’s ability to play in Pakistan.

However, PCB sources have firmly dismissed these rumours, affirming that all matches will be held within Pakistan.

"No consideration is being given to any hybrid model," PCB source said.

The PCB has reiterated its commitment to hosting the tournament exclusively on Pakistani soil and is actively upgrading venues to meet international standards. The Asia Cup 2023 was previously conducted in a hybrid model, with India’s games taking place in Sri Lanka under former PCB chief Najam Sethi's leadership. This arrangement was driven by India’s reluctance to play in Pakistan, but PCB officials clarified that this would not apply to the Champions Trophy.

It is worth noting that an International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation is expected to visit Lahore from November 10 to 12 to assess Pakistan's preparations for the tournament. An official event on November 11 is anticipated, during which the tournament’s schedule and key details will likely be unveiled. Sources indicate that the schedule has already been shared with member nations.

As per the proposed groups, Pakistan will be in Group A with India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, while Group B includes England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan. India’s participation remains contingent on the Indian government’s decision regarding the team’s travel to Pakistan.

The Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025, with matches set across Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. Lahore will host seven matches, including the final on March 9, while Karachi’s National Stadium will stage the tournament opener and a semi-final. The other semi-final will take place in Rawalpindi.
