Cricket world celebrates New Zealand’s historic T20 World Cup triumph

New Zealand made history on Sunday, claiming their first-ever ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title after a stunning victory over South Africa. Led by all-rounder Melie Kerr's brilliant performance, the White Ferns lifted the trophy, sparking a wave of congratulations from across the globe.

Former New Zealand players were among the first to express their joy. Ex-keeper Katey Martin, who was commentating during the tournament, couldn’t hide her excitement, saying, "The greatest day! What an incredible bunch. They’ve done it the Kiwi way!"

Other cricket stars from New Zealand, like former bowler Mitchell McClenaghan, also praised the team, sharing their happiness on social media.

Australia, New Zealand’s long-time Trans-Tasman rival, sent their heartfelt congratulations. The Australian Women’s Cricket Team tweeted their support, calling the Kiwis "friends from across the ditch." Veteran Aussie all-rounder Ellyse Perry also shared her tribute, showing respect for the White Ferns' achievement.

Across the cricketing world, former international players and commentators were quick to join in the celebration. England’s Michael Vaughan hailed New Zealand as a "remarkable cricketing nation," while India’s Mithali Raj noted how the White Ferns went from a 10-match losing streak to becoming world champions.

South Africa’s Russel Arnold and commentator Ian Bishop both highlighted the special day for New Zealand, with Bishop calling it "magnificent and historic."
