England 321-8 at stumps in first Sri lanka Test

Debutant wicketkeeper-batsman Ben Foakes made an unbeaten 87 as England reached 321 for eight at stumps on day one of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Tuesday.

Foakes built crucial partnerships including an 88-run stand with Sam Curran (48) to lead the tourists' revival after they were 103-5. Jack Leach, on 14, was batting alongside Foakes at close of play.

Off-spinner Dilruwan Perera took four wickets, while retiring Rangana Herath claimed his 100th Test scalp at the venue.
