Fakhar Zaman to depart for London to undergo rehab on his injured knee

Fakhar Zaman will depart for London on Friday to undergo rehabilitation on his injured knee, it was announced in a press release by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Fakhar had landed awkwardly on his right knee while fielding during  Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka in Dubai.  During his stay in London, the Pakistani opener will remain under the supervision of the PCB Advisory Panel, which includes Dr Imtiaz Ahmad and Dr Zafar Iqbal. The board will make all relevant logistical arrangements for the batter.

Fakhar is not part of the squad for the seven-match T20I series against England and has also been kept in reserves for the T20 World Cup in Australia.

“Fakhar Zaman has also been rested from the England T20Is so that he can recover from the knee injury he sustained when he landed awkwardly while fielding in the final," Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim said.

The panel is also said to be already treating Shaheen Shah Afridi for a knee problem.

Updating about Shaheen Shah Afridi's rehabilitation progress, PCB said that the pacer is making "excellent progress in his rehabilitation in London". The statement read that Shaheen is on track to make a "full recovery in time for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022".

Following veteran cricketer Shahid Afridi's claims about the board's negligence in Shaheen's rehabilitation, the board clarified saying that the PCB has always been and will continue to be responsible for arranging medical care and rehabilitation of all its players requiring any treatment.
