Former legends react after Pakistan’s disappointing Test series defeat to Bangladesh

Former Pakistan legends have expressed disappointment following the national team’s dismal performance in the Test series against Bangladesh, culminating in a humiliating 2-0 defeat in Rawalpindi.

With this defeat, Pakistan's hopes of reaching the World Test Championship 2023-25 final have come to an end.

The loss has sparked concern among former players, with many attributing the team's struggles to internal issues within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and poor on-field performances.

Former Test captain Javed Miandad voiced his frustration, stating, “It is hurting that our cricket has come to this stage. Bangladesh deserve credit for their disciplined performances. But the way our batting has collapsed in this series is a bad sign."

“I wouldn’t just blame the players because whatever has happened in the board (PCB) in the last one and half years and the captaincy and management changes have affected the team,” he added.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, another former captain, highlighted Pakistan's alarming home record, noting that the team has failed to secure a victory in nine consecutive Tests.

“Home series were always considered our best chance of beating the best sides in the past. But for this to happen the batsmen need to get runs,” he said.

Younis Khan, Pakistan’s record-breaking batsman, pointed out the psychological toll of a losing streak.

“Our batters have got runs in the past but right now I think they need mental strengthening and a clear mind to overcome this crisis,” he said.

Former Test spinner Iqbal Qasim called for a renewed focus on nurturing spin talent, arguing that Pakistan’s best chance of success at home lies in developing and supporting spin bowlers.

“We don’t have bowlers of the calibre of Sarfaraz Nawaz, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar or Shoaib now. So, we should be banking on our spinners to win us Tests at home,” he said.
