Gaddafi Stadium's capacity doubled for Pakistan-hosted 2025 Champions Trophy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a substantial increase in the spectator capacity at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The iconic stadium, which currently accommodates 21,000 fans, will see its capacity doubled to 34,000 ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Jawaid Qazi Ahmed, the PCB's Director of Infrastructure, revealed that construction work is underway around the clock to achieve this expansion. The project, estimated to cost 7.5 billion rupees, is expected to be completed by December 31, 2024. To improve viewing angles, trees are being removed, and enclosures are being brought closer to the pitch.

With the ICC delegation scheduled to visit Pakistan in late October or early November, the PCB is working diligently to ensure that Gaddafi Stadium is ready to host international cricket matches. The upcoming Champions Trophy, to be held from February 19 to March 9, 2025, will serve as a major test for the expanded stadium.

Pakistan is grouped with India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand in Group A of the Champions Trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently awaiting government clearance to confirm its participation in matches to be played in Pakistan.

Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi will host matches during the tournament. Lahore will be the center of action, hosting seven matches, including the final. Karachi will stage the opening match and a semi-final, while Rawalpindi will host five matches, including the other semi-final. The semi-finals are scheduled for March 5 and 6, followed by the final on March 9.
