Gurbaz and Zadran shatter Babar and Rizwan's T20 World Cup record

Afghanistan's opening batsmen, Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, set a new record for the most runs by a pair in a single T20 World Cup edition during their match against Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The duo has now accumulated 442 runs in the 2024 T20 World Cup, surpassing the previous record of 411 runs set by Pakistan's Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in 2021.

In their final Super 8 clash of the tournament, Zadran and Gurbaz put on 59 runs for the first wicket against Bangladesh.

Afghanistan, batting first after winning the toss, managed to score 115-5 in their allotted 20 overs, despite a strong bowling performance from Bangladesh.

Gurbaz emerged as the top scorer for Afghanistan, contributing 43 runs off 55 balls, which included three fours and a six.
