Hafeez named Qalandars’ captain for PSL fourth edition

Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has been officially named as the captain of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars, ahead of fourth edition.

Hafeez represented Peshawar Zalmi during the first three editions of the league but was snapped up by the Qalandars — during the draft in Islamabad on November 20.

The 38-year-old was optimistic about leading his side to glory — bearing in mind the lacklustre performances of the Lahore-based franchise in the previous seasons.

“I want to help the franchise win by using my experience to good effect,” said Hafeez. “Winning is important for our fans as well as they have stuck by our side despite not putting up a good show in the previous editions of PSL.”

He added that all franchises have good squads on paper but the important thing is to perform well on the field.

“All teams are well balanced but you never win matches on paper. It is how you perform on the field which matters,” he said. “The matches in next edition will be competitive and exciting just like previous seasons.”

Head Coach of Lahore Qalandars Aaqib Javed was hopeful that — under leadership of Hafeez — the team will achieve its goals in the fourth edition of PSL.

“With the involvement of a passionate player like Mohammad Hafeez, we are hopeful about achieving things we were not able to achieve in the previous three seasons,” said Javed. “I would like to thank him for becoming a part of Lahore Qalandars next season.”

The fourth edition of PSL is scheduled to begin on February 14, 2019 in UAE.
