Bhogle took to Twitter to slam the media outlets, which ran the story regarding the accusations without any credible source.

The Indian commentator emphasized the need to substantiate claims before publishing any story, which could damage someone's reputation.
"The urgency with which everyone latched onto the fake Babar Azam story is so disappointing for our profession. Speed might be of the essence but the truth must come first, no?," tweeted Bhogle.
The Pakistan skipper was falsely accused by a social media user of promising a woman that her boyfriend’s spot in Pakistan’s XI will be safe if she kept sexting with him. However, this accusation seems to have come from a Twitter account @niiravmodi, who calls his account a “parody”. His account is verified with a blue tick via the Twitter Blue subscription service, which might have confused people as him being a credible news source.
Despite the allegations, Babar Azam's fans supported the Pakistan skipper and termed the allegations a 'hoax' and a 'conspiracy.' The hashtags #WeStandwithBabar and #StayStrongBabarAzam were also among the top trends on Twitter on Monday.
