HBL clinch Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup trophy

Habib Bank Limited (HBL) have defeated Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) by 62 runs in the final of the Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday.

Chasing 292, WAPDA were bowled out for 229 thanks to all-round performance by Zohaib Khan — who scored a brisk half-century while also bagging a wicket.

WAPDA got off to a disastrous start as they lost Kamran Akmal with just 15 runs on the board. Captain Salman Butt (56) and opener Rafatullah Mohmand (51) provided a 98-run stand for the third wicket but both were sent back to the pavilion by Agha Salman in quick succession.

Muhammad Akhlaq (30) and Ayaz Tasawwar (20) tried to carry their team forward but failed to resist HBL’s bowling attack.

Earlier, HBL scored 291 for the loss of seven wickets, with Khan top-scoring with unbeaten 68. Rameez Aziz played a good innings of 55 while Umar Akmal scored 49 runs.

Arshad Iqbal claimed two wickets for WAPDA while Zulfiqar Babar, Khalid Usman, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Irfan bagged a wicket each in the game.

For his all-round performance Zohaib Khan was declared player of the match.
