Iftikhar Ahmed's effort falls short as Montreal Tigers clinch GT20 Canada title

Iftikhar Ahmed's valiant efforts fell short as Montreal Tigers emerged victorious against Surrey Jaguars and won the Global T20 Canada 2023 championship on Sunday at Brampton.

After being asked to bat first, Iftikhar-led Jaguars scored a total of 130 after losing five wickets in the first innings.

The team was struggling at 85 after losing three-main wickets inside the 14th over, but it was Jatinder Singh's unbeaten fifty-run innings which led to his side in reaching the aforementioned total.

During the chase, Montreal side was unable to get a good start as they lost the first wicket of opener Mohammad Waseem for a golden duck.

Iftikhar Ahmed's impressive bowling created a challenge for the Tigers, as he secured two crucial wickets, dismissing Chris Lynn (31) and Dilpreet Singh (14).

The 32-year-old displayed exceptional bowling skills, conceding a mere 8 runs in his four-over spell, boasting an economy rate of 2.00.

However, despite his efforts, his team found themselves on the losing end as Tigers skillfully pursued the target, losing only five wickets and ultimately claimed the title of Global T20 Canada 2023.
