Pakistan cricketer, Umar Amin, who has consistently performed in all three formats of domestic cricket since being dropped from the national team has shared his current focus and future aspirations.
Amin emphasized his dedication to performing well in every format he plays, whether it’s red-ball or white-ball cricket.
“Well, since I was dropped from the team, I’ve been playing all three formats. I try to give my best performance in all of them. If you look at my performances in the recent past, whether in red-ball or white-ball cricket, I’m definitely among the top three cricketers, especially in red-ball cricket, I think I would be number one if you consider the performances of the last five or six years,” Amin explained.
Addressing his limited opportunities in the PSL despite being part of the Quetta Gladiators squad, Amin attributed it to team combinations rather than his form.
“It’s about the team combination. Because there’s a rule in PSL that you have to include an emerging cricketer in the playing XI. So, our team’s combination wasn’t quite fitting me in, and I think that’s why I couldn’t play despite being part of the squad,” he said.
As for the possibility of moving to the US for league cricket, Amin clarified, “So far, there’s no such plan. If I had such a plan, I would have made that decision two or three years ago. Then I wouldn’t have played so much domestic and other formats of cricket. I’ve been playing every national tournament since I was dropped from the team; I haven’t missed a single domestic tournament by the PCB.”
Looking ahead, Amin remains focused on making the most of present opportunities rather than setting long-term goals.
“Moving forward, my goal is very simple. I want to focus on the cricket I am currently playing. I haven’t set any long-term or short-term goals at this time. My focus is on how I can grab the opportunity in front of me on the given day and time,” he concluded.
