Babar Azam will keep captaining the side for as long as he wants, said PCB management committee chairman, Najam Sethi on Monday.
Sethi cleared the air regarding any peril to the 28-year-old's captaincy. He emphasized that the power lies with Babar Azam himself, whether he wants to retain the captain duties or not – there’s no unnecessary pressure on him from any side.
“There is no threat. Our established skipper Babar will remain the captain of our national squad until he himself decides whether he wants to leave captaincy of any one format or all three formats or he wants to remain the captain in all. It will totally be his call," Sethi said.
"I respect Babar a lot; he is our top star. I am very happy that he supported our decision to try youngsters against Afghanistan", he added.
Pakistan captain Babar, along with Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi have been rested for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
