Jason Gillespie praises Haris Rauf for exposing Australia’s batting weaknesses

Pakistan cricket team coach Jason Gillespie has credited Haris Rauf’s speed for exposing weaknesses in Australia’s batting lineup.

Speaking to Australian media, Gillespie expressed his appreciation for Rauf's powerful performance, noting that Pakistan’s bowlers exploited Australia’s struggles during the series.

Gillespie shared that it was expected Australia would make lineup adjustments for the final match and that the Australian team might field their main fast bowlers in Perth.

"You always keep in mind that they’ll use their top pace attack in Perth," he said, adding that team selection and player management ultimately lie with each team’s coaches and selectors.

“Haris Rauf’s pace really exposed some flaws in Australia’s batting/ The reality is, we should have won the first game too," Gillespie added.

He added that he was pleased with Pakistan’s overall performance, emphasizing the satisfaction of not just beating Australia but securing victory by a clear margin.

Gillespie also discussed the importance of player fitness in international cricket, stressing that it’s impractical to play every player in every game due to fatigue risks. He pointed out that consistently fielding every player is challenging, and doing so could lead to player exhaustion. The bowling attack, he noted, successfully highlighted the gaps in Australia’s batting.

He expressed confidence that Australia would work on these weaknesses, as good teams adapt and prepare for new challenges.

“I believe the Australian team will address these flaws. Strong teams learn and come back prepared," Gillespie remarked.

The Pakistani coach also noted that the three-match ODI series didn’t appear to be a high priority for Australia, observing that Cricket Australia’s promotion for the series was surprisingly low, with the Board focusing more on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.
