Jasprit Bumrah's T20 World Cup heroics draw praise from former cricketers

India clinched their second T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final by seven runs at Kensington Oval, Barbados. This victory marks a historic moment for India, who last won the T20 World Cup in 2007.

Chasing a target of 177, South Africa struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the show, turning the game in India’s favor with a crucial spell. He dismissed key South African batsmen Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram, finishing with figures of 2 for 18. His performance was pivotal in restricting South Africa, helping India defend their total successfully.

Former cricketers and fans are heaping praise on Bumrah for his match-winning spell. Michael Vaughan, former England captain, took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to hail Bumrah, stating, “I think Bumrah is the greatest ever white ball seam bowler.”

Irfan Pathan, former Indian all-rounder, also lauded Bumrah, calling him one of the best white-ball bowlers in the world. Pathan wrote, “We Indians are lucky to have one of the greatest white-ball bowlers in our ranks. Jasprit Bumrah.”

Bumrah’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament earned him the Player of the Tournament award. He took 15 wickets in eight matches, maintaining a consistent form except for the game against the USA, where he went wicketless. His contributions were crucial in India’s path to the final and eventual victory.
