Pakistan Women overpowered Ireland Women by 38 runs during the ongoing ICC Women’s World T20 at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence.
Captain Javeria Khan led from the front with a knock of 72 runs off just 52 balls to help Pakistan upstage the Irish side.
The Green Shirts had lost their opening two games of the event — against Australia and India — and desperately needed a win to keep their hopes of progressing in the tournament alive.
In the Group B match, Ireland were restricted to 101-9 in their allotted 20 overs while chasing a target of 140 runs.
Earlier Pakistan posted 139-6 after they had won the toss and decided to bat first.
Other than Javeria’s 72-run innings, Ayesha Zafar and Umaima Sohail scored 21 and 18 runs respectively.
Lucy O'Reilly was the pick of the Irish bowlers as she claimed three wickets for 19 runs.
In reply, Ireland were unable to chase down the target due to Pakistan’s clinical bowling effort.
Spinners Sana Mir and Nashra Sandhu and pacers Aiman Anwer and Aliya Riaz bagged two wickets each.
Clare Shillington (27) and Isobel Joyce (30) were the only notable performers with the bat for Ireland.
Due to her match-winning knock, Javeria was declared the player of the match.
Pakistan will play their final group stage match of the tournament against New Zealand Women on Friday, November 16 at the same venue.
