Masood wants Pakistan selectors to adopt England's World Cup winning formula

Left-hand opener Shan Masood wants Pakistan cricket to follow England’s example with regards to their selection policy.

While speaking to reporters, in a teleconference on Wednesday, the 30-year-old said that players should be given a proper chance in the team, in order to help them play with a positive frame of mind on the field.

“All the top players of this era were not what they’re today, they started as normal cricketers. Consistency made them reach to the glory,” said Masood. “If you take example of England, they set a direction for themselves in 2016 and they stick to it which helped them win World Cup 2019.”

“Players must be given sense of security while he's in the squad. He should be given the confidence that can help him perform better,” he added.

Earlier this week, Pakistan opener Imamul Haq, in an Instagram live session, raised similar views that the main reason behind the Men in Green’s inconsistent performances in international cricket is fear of failure.

“Our team has fear of failure, although that is my personal assessment, which is why players don’t perform consistently. They are worried about getting dropped from the side after two or three poor performances,” said Imam. “Communication gap between board and players also results in inconsistency.”

“This is not the case with other teams around the world. If you look at the example of Rohit Sharma, who did not do well initially in his career but India trusted him and he came good later,” he added.

Masood added that his improved fitness has contributed towards his progression as a cricketer.

“My fitness has played an important role in my growth as a cricketer,” he said. “Fitness tests gauge your general fitness without preparation. Some people study throughout the year and some just when exams are near. So take fitness tests just like an exam. Study all year and keep working hard, so when fitness tests will come, you won’t be tensed.”
