Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has set his sight on the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The aggressive right-handed batman — who had a disappointing T20I tri-nation tournament between Pakistan, Australia and Zimbabwe — is keen to produce an improved show in the upcoming three-match series.
The opening game of the series will be played on Wednesday at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Maxwell, while recalling the 2014 tour, said he has fond memories of the place and is eager to replicate his performance in upcoming series.
“The grounds here are beautiful. I have been lucky enough to have some success in Dubai,” said Maxwell while talking to the Gulf News. “There was a one-day game that we played here in 2014 where I was able to score some runs and take some wickets. Hopefully, we can get a decent crowd and really entertain them.”
He added: “We are looking forward to the challenge. We had a good tri-series against Pakistan and Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, Pakistan got the better of us in the final. Hopefully, we can improve our performance by one level and win the series here.”
The all-rounder is also aware of the threat posed by Pakistan — who are currently the top-ranked side in the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I rankings.
“Pakistan are obviously a very strong unit especially in the shortest format of the game,” he said. “They have played some really good T20 cricket over the last couple of years to get themselves to the world number 1 spot. We’ll have our work cut out. Guys like Fakhar Zaman has been outstanding, they don’t rely on one specific bowler as they are a unit that works together. So we’ll have to be at our A game to beat them.”
