Former Pakistan captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, has recommended organizing intra-squad matches as part of Pakistan's preparations for the upcoming World Cup.
Speaking to the media in Lahore on Saturday, Misbah stressed the importance of starting the planning process immediately to ensure a strong performance in the mega event.
Misbah suggested that upon Pakistan Shaheens’ return from their tour in Zimbabwe, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should arrange intra-squad matches between the national team members and the Shaheens. This would provide an opportunity for the players to assess their readiness and fine-tune their skills.
“I think preparations should start straight away. As soon as [Pakistan] Shaheens return from Zimbabwe, PCB should try to arrange intra-squad matches between Pakistan team members and Pakistan Shaheens. They should make sure that all players are ready otherwise this gap till Asia Cup will be detrimental for Pakistan team in big events,” Misbah said.
Expressing optimism about Pakistan's chances in the World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in India, Misbah highlighted the team's strengths.
"Pakistan has a strong chance to win the World Cup in India this year," he said.
"Three of our batters are in the top ICC rankings. We have good bowling options. There is a need to just make the right plans at the right time. Select a competitive team and make your way in the World Cup strongly," he added.
