Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has hailed Virat Kohli as the best batsman of his generation, dismissing comparisons with modern players like Babar Azam, Steve Smith, and Joe Root. During a recent appearance on a sports talk show, Amir expressed admiration for Kohli’s unparalleled achievements and his ability to perform across all formats of the game.
“Virat Kohli is the greatest player of this generation,” Amir remarked. “I laugh when comparisons are made between him and Babar Azam, Steve Smith, or Joe Root. Kohli has single-handedly won so many matches for India, which seems impossible for any one player. Across all three formats, he remains unmatched,” he added.
Amir also praised Kohli’s resilience and work ethic, particularly highlighting the Indian star’s comeback after a tough series in England in 2014. “Virat Kohli’s dedication sets him apart from other players. After his struggles in England, he bounced back and delivered consistently brilliant performances for the next decade. That kind of consistency is extraordinary,” Amir said.
The left-arm pacer fondly recalled Kohli’s dismissal during the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final, labeling it a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s triumph. “His wicket in the 2017 Champions Trophy final was crucial for us. It played a significant role in our victory. If Kohli had stayed at the crease, we would’ve likely lost because his record while chasing runs is exceptional,” he added.
