Former Indian and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni has opened up about his Indian Premier League (IPL) future, emphasizing that any decision will prioritize the best interests of the team.
The 43-year-old cricket icon has adopted a wait-and-watch approach before deciding on playing in the next IPL season.
As the IPL teams and league authorities plan for auctions and player retentions, Dhoni is keen to understand the rules and regulations before making a final decision about his retirement.
"There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court," Dhoni said.
"So, once the rules and regulations get formalized, I will take a call, but it needs to be in the best interest of the team," he added.
Dhoni participated in the 2024 IPL season after undergoing successful knee surgery. Despite occasionally struggling and limping on the field, his determination to entertain fans remained undiminished.
Batting lower down the order with limited opportunities, Dhoni scored 161 runs in 11 innings at an impressive average of 53.66 and a strike rate of 220.54. His top score for the season was 37*, including 14 fours and 13 sixes.
Despite Dhoni's efforts, CSK narrowly missed out on the playoffs, finishing fifth with 14 points from seven wins and seven losses, ultimately falling short due to a critical loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
