Former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has decided to join West Indies as assistant coach — meaning he will no longer work as spin consultant for the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Ahmed had renewed his contract with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) back in April this year despite offers from West Indies, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
He will now be serving the Caribbean side as an assistant coach for a minimum of 150 days in a year.
According to Daily Express, Ahmed — who has also worked with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) — was eager to join Windies during the ongoing tour of India. However, due to political tensions and visa issues between Pakistan and India, he failed to join the squad.
Now, his first assignment as the assistant coach will be the tour of Bangladesh where West Indies will play two Tests, three One-Day Internationals (ODI) and three T20Is.
