Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee chairman, Najam Sethi, took a dig at the previous PCB administration, led by Ramiz Raja, for neglecting the opening ceremony of PSL.
Sethi, conducted a presser before the final of PSL 8, and congratulated the franchises, media partners, fans and all the associated staff for transfiguring this season into huge success both on national and international levels.
However, while talking about the hurdles his team has to face in arranging the opening ceremony, Sethi disparaged former administration on treating PSL like an orphan and investing all resources on Pakistan Junior League (PJL).
"This year's opening ceremony was exceptional. Even those three ceremonies in which I was involved, including the one in Dubai, couldn't compete with this season's ceremony. This was by far the best," Sethi said.
"There were no plans for an opening ceremony when I took over the office on December 22nd. When asked why there hasn't been a strategy for the opening ceremony yet, and why there hasn't been a budget set aside for branding? As a response, we were told that previous management were too busy doing other things, such as celebrating Junior League and so on. They only kept a small amount for branding. I was astounded at how a magnanimous brand like PSL was treated like an orphan," he added.
The Pakistan Junior League (PJL) was a professional 20-over cricket league contested by Under-19 teams representing different cities of Pakistan. The league was soft-launched on 14 April 2022 by Ramiz Raja. The only edition of the tournamnet was played in October 2022, featuring six teams and 19 games, at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
