Mohammad Nawaz’s all-round display was enough for Cape Town Blitz to register an impressive 49-run win against Tshwane Spartans in the first game of the Mzansi Super League in Cape Town on Friday.
After put into bat first, the home side was in trouble but the 24-year-old scored fighting 59 off just 37 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes and help the team in registering a competitive total of 180 for the loss of four wickets.
For the visitors, pacer Andrew Birch was the most successful bowler as he claimed two wickets.
In reply, Spartans never really get going and were bowled out for just 131 in the last over of the innings. Captain AB de Villiers finished the innings with the top score of 59 off just 30 balls with the help of three fours and five sixes.
For the home side, right-arm pacer Ferisco Adams claimed three, whereas Nawaz, Anrich Nortje, Malusi Siboto and George Linde claimed a wicket each.
For his outstanding performance, Nawaz was named player of the match.
