No concerns raised over schedule for Pakistan-hosted 2025 Champions Trophy at ICC meeting in October

No member country, including India, voiced any objections regarding the schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan during the ICC Board meeting held in Dubai last month, sources revealed. The meeting, which coincided with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, was seen as the ideal platform to address any potential issues with the tournament, yet none were raised.

According to minutes from the board meeting, the proposed schedule, which had already been approved by the ICC’s main broadcast partner, Star Sports, was shared with all participating nations. The 15 matches are set to be held across three Pakistani cities—Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi—and each country received a copy of the schedule without objection.

“A match schedule has been developed in conjunction with the PCB. The 15 matches are to be hosted across three venues in Pakistan: Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi.

"The match schedule has been approved by ICC’s main broadcast partner, Star, and each participating team has received a copy of their schedule for the event. No Member has raised any concerns with the schedule as circulated,” it stated.

However, a source in Islamabad has highlighted that recent informal communication from India to the ICC about their inability to travel to Pakistan may suggest a deliberate attempt to destabilize the event.

“There was no discussion of such concerns during the ICC Board meeting, the appropriate forum to address such matters. Yet, just as Pakistan was set to host an event marking 100 days to the tournament, the BCCI informed the ICC of its position verbally,” the source said.

The PCB had planned a November 11 event to unveil the Champions Trophy schedule, event branding, and a trophy tour. Additionally, the ICC gave Pakistan the green light to conduct a pre-tournament testing event at all three venues in January. Security briefings for all participating teams were held prior to the board meeting, with no objections raised.

The PCB has sent a formal questionnaire to the ICC, seeking clarification following India's verbal communication.

“The delay in ICC’s response suggests there’s no written statement from the BCCI. If such a document existed, it would have reached us by now. It’s been two days since we contacted the ICC,” the source said.

With less than 100 days left until the Champions Trophy, the situation is causing frustration among fans and affecting stakeholders with commercial interests. “Branding and activation plans are on hold due to the uncertainty,” another insider added.

While the finalized schedule has been reviewed by the board and broadcasters, an official announcement remains pending.
