Following their challenging ODI experience on Australian pitches, Pakistan’s T20 squad is adopting a novel approach to training, simulating Australia’s quick, bouncy conditions by practicing on marble surfaces. This inventive method aims to improve their batting technique for the upcoming T20 series in Australia.
To strengthen their response to Australia’s notorious bounce and pace, Pakistani players, including rising stars Omair bin Yousuf and Usman Khan, were seen practicing on marble surfaces at the National Stadium in Karachi. This unique training emphasizes footwork and timing—key skills for managing high-bounce deliveries on Australian wickets.
Usman Khan, reflecting on the team’s performance in the first ODI, discussed the motivation behind this unconventional method.
“After watching our performance in the first ODI, we realized we needed to adapt to Australia’s high bounce,” he said. “Practicing on marble helps us become more proficient at fast pitches by improving our timing and mastering shots like the draw and cut.
Acknowledging the challenges of Australian pitches, Usman expressed confidence in the team’s preparations. “Early wickets are often a risk on both sides, so adapting quickly is vital,” he added.
The 29-year-old aims to score in any batting position for the T20 series, drawing on his strong partnership with Mohammad Rizwan from their Multan Sultans days in the PSL.
“My objective is to contribute runs, whether I’m batting at number four or any other position. He continued, “Mohammad Rizwan maintains a strong synergy with all teammates, so playing with him in the Pakistan Super League for Multan Sultans has been invaluable.”
It is worth noting that Australia currently leads the three-match ODI series 1-0, with the second ODI scheduled for November 8 in Adelaide and the third and final match on November 10 in Perth. Following the ODI series, both teams will compete in a three-match T20I series from November 14 to 18.
