PAK vs ENG: "I was dropped without any reason", Sajid Khan opens up after comeback in Pakistan team

Pakistan's off spinner Sajid Khan, made a significant impact in the second Test of the three-match series against England at Multan Cricket Stadium, marking his return to the Test playing XI for the first time since January 2024. In an impressive display of skill, Sajid troubled the English batting lineup, dismissing key players including Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Ben Duckett, and Harry Brook.

The 31-year-old's performance on Day 2 saw him take four wickets in 19 overs, cementing his status as Pakistan's top bowler for the day. His celebration after claiming the wicket of Harry Brook captured the attention of fans and viewers alike.

With a length ball outside off-stump that turned in, Sajid watched as Brook attempted to back away, only to see his stumps shattered. Pulling off a celebration reminiscent of Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, Sajid's exuberance was infectious, even prompting the cameraman to mimic his moves. The moment quickly went viral, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sharing the clip on their official X handle.

During a post-match interview, Sajid discussed the backstory behind his jubilant celebration, revealing a troubling pattern in his career: “The story behind my celebration is that whenever I play cricket, I perform and get dropped. Everywhere from school cricket, U13 & U16 in Peshawar, I would perform and get dropped. At the start, I was a batsman then I became an off-spinner. I would be the best performer for Peshawar, but I would get dropped."

He further elaborated on how this history of being dropped, even after strong performances, fueled his passion and unique celebrations. “This gave me spirit, and I started these celebrations. I made my comeback in Australia and bowled well in Australia’s home ground. Again, in the next series, I was dropped without any reason.”

Sajid also shared a memorable interaction with England’s Joe Root, whom he considered a “dream wicket.” Upon meeting Root at the crease, he mentioned having played against Root’s brother, prompting laughter from the England star.

“As soon as Joe Root came to bat, I told him I’ve played against your brother in England, but you are my dream wicket, so he started laughing. But that was my dream and most prized wicket today.”

At stumps on Day 2, England found themselves at 239/6, still trailing by 127 runs as they aimed to close the gap on Pakistan's total.
