PAK vs ENG: Sajid Khan breaks 24-year-old record held by Saqlain Mushtaq

Pakistan's off-spinner Sajid Khan has broken a 24-year-old record by claiming five wickets in the ongoing second Test match against England at Multan Cricket Stadium.

On home turf, he took seven wickets in total, showcasing remarkable skill by dismissing three English players in just 10 balls during the closing session of the previous day. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Sajid, making him the first Pakistani off-spinner in nearly a quarter of a century to accomplish this feat on home soil.

His impressive performance was on full display during the first innings, where he consistently troubled the English batsmen. His spell was particularly electrifying, as he claimed three wickets in just ten balls during the closing session of play the previous day.

The last Pakistani off spinner to take five or more wickets in a Test match at home was the legendary Saqlain Mushtaq, who set the record way back in 2000 against England in Rawalpindi.

In the first innings, Pakistan, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, scored a commendable 366 runs. The highlight of the innings was debutant Kamran Ghulam, who celebrated his first Test century with a solid 118 runs, supported by Saim Ayub's crucial contribution of 77 runs.

In response, England struggled to find their footing and were dismissed for 291 runs within the first hour of play on the third day. Sajid Khan led the charge with a stunning seven-wicket haul, while fellow spinner Noman Ali added three wickets to the tally, emphasizing the effectiveness of Pakistan's spin attack.

Ben Duckett emerged as the standout performer for England, scoring 114 runs, but his efforts were not enough to propel the team beyond Pakistan's total. With a lead of 75 runs, the home side is now poised to aim for a substantial second innings total, eyeing a comeback in the match and the opportunity to level the series.
