Pakistan, Afghanistan players soar in latest ICC rankings

The latest ICC rankings have revealed significant upward movements for players from Pakistan and Afghanistan, following a thrilling week of international cricket. Afghanistan's remarkable victory in a historic ODI series against South Africa has propelled several of its stars into the top echelons of the rankings, while Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan has also made notable strides.

Rishabh Pant made a sensational re-entry into the top ten Test batting rankings, landing at sixth place after scoring a century in the second innings of India's impressive win over Bangladesh in Chennai. His compatriot, Yashasvi Jaiswal, climbed to fifth with a notable half-century in the same match, boosting his rating to 751 points. Rohit Sharma, however, saw a dip in his standing, dropping five spots to tenth after struggling with scores below ten in both innings. In the latest update, Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan has climbed one spot, moving from ninth to eighth place.

The latest Test matches in Galle also sparked shifts in the top ten Bowling Rankings. Sri Lanka's Prabath Jayasuriya solidified his status as one of the finest spinners in the game, moving up five spots to eighth after an outstanding nine-wicket haul against New Zealand. His rise puts him at the forefront of Sri Lankan bowlers, surpassing Asitha Fernando, who slid to 13th.

Meanwhile, in the ODI format, two explosive batters broke into the top ten rankings thanks to stellar performances. Young Afghan sensation Rahmanullah Gurbaz continued to shine, notching his seventh ODI century before his 23rd birthday and jumping ten spots to eighth with a rating of 692 points. This achievement marks a historic milestone as Gurbaz becomes the first Afghan player to reach the ICC Men's ODI Batting Ranking's top 10, surpassing Ibrahim Zadran's previous best of 12th.

Australian Travis Head also made headlines, moving up seven places to ninth after a blistering 154 runs off just 129 balls in the first ODI against England.

In the ODI Bowling Rankings, Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan joined Gurbaz in the spotlight, advancing eight spots to third with 668 rating points, thanks to his seven wickets in the victorious series against South Africa. Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi is now positioned at sixth spot in the latest update, further emphasizing the strength of the region’s talent pool.
